Members of the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des Tonneliers de France range from small businesses to companies that are listed on the stock market. The majority are small- and medium-sized businesses and many are family-owned.<\/p>\n

One-third of cooperages have about five employees and 50% have an average of 25 employees. A few of our member companies employ 150 people and one mid-sized member company has 300 employees.<\/p>\n

The cooperage industry has sales of roughly 589 million euros, for production in excess of 687,000 barrels a year destinated to wines and spirits. One-third of production is sold in France. On average, the French cooperage industry exports 65% of production. From Chile to China and from South Africa to New Zealand, producers of high-quality wine all around the world overwhelmingly favor maturing wine in barrels made in France. Our leading export markets are the United States, Spain, Australia, and Italy.<\/p>\n

As the only sector in the French timber industry with a surplus trade balance, the cooperage trade has a prominent role in the wine-producing industry internationally and asserts its place as a world leader.<\/p>\n
